If you choose to write in a formal, complex or bureaucratic way, or use unfamiliar words, or use an academic style when you write, then only academically able and educated people will understand your document easily.

You will exclude some people from engaging with you and your message.

If you choose to write in a plain style, you will make your content available to many more readers. Lot’s of people will be able to understand, and you won’t disadvantage the academically able – they will still be fine.
