Johann Hari, in his book Stolen Focus, claims average office workers focus for a maximum of just 3 minutes at a time.

Our ability to concentrate and read for an extended time is diminishing, largely due to being constantly interrupted by various forms of technology.

Just about all modern readers struggle to focus on large slabs of writing.

So, what can we as writers do to help our messages get across. Well writing succinctly using as few words as needed helps. Also, chunking your content into bite size chunks is more important than ever.

And above all, engage – tap into the things that are important for your reader, perhaps that they are passionate about.

There are so many distractions to take your readers’ minds from your message.
