Beware of content scatter

Content scatter can occur when a subject is discussed in several different locations.

Scatter can happen if you are developing a website or other document over time.

As your thinking develops, you may document it in different places – perhaps talking about different aspects of the topic. Reading one of the locations will give some of the information, but not all of it.

That’s potentially dangerous – if people read only one location, readers may miss something important. They may think they have the full story when they don’t.

Try to place all related content in one place so your readers get the complete picture. Or use links to make the user aware that there is other important information they should look at.
