How to organise content for readers

One of the most helpful things you can do when crafting a document is to organise your content in a way that makes sense to your readers.

It’s not so much about how you think about the content, but more about what your readers need.

Organising content ‘point first’, with your main idea at the beginning, is helpful in most documents. Some other helpful ideas are to:

Move from the known to the unknown – help your readers by building on concepts and ideas they already have.

Move from the from simple to complex – gradually build on easily grasped ideas to develop a more complete and rounded picture.

Move from the concrete to the abstract – use examples and stories to build principles and approaches.
